Rhinoplasty Patient Assessment
Our patients choose rhinoplasty nose surgery for a wide variety of reasons. One of the most common is that they have spent their whole lives with a nose that they are unhappy with; often they feel that it is too large or has an unattractive bump. Rhinoplasty nose surgery can return harmony to the face and let the other facial features work together to create an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Sometimes the best way to do this is to combine rhinoplasty with chin implant surgery.
Other applications of rhinoplasty include repair of a nose broken in an accident, or repair of an internal nasal structure that is causing breathing problems.
Rhinoplasty Procedure
During their initial consultation at our San Diego Facial Plastic Surgery Office, our rhinoplasty patients discuss their cosmetic goals in detail. We believe that good communication is the key to successful cosmetic surgery.
The rhinoplasty incision is usually made inside the nose to eliminate visible scarring. Sometimes, a small incision is also required along the bridge of skin between the nostrils. The surgeon will manipulate and trim bone and cartilage to achieve the desired result before closing the incisions.
Rhinoplasty Recovery
In most cases, patients leaving our San Diego office after rhinoplasty (nose surgery) will be wearing a nasal splint to hold the cartilage and bone in its new position. This bandaging is usually removed within a week after nose surgery. Patients can expect to experience swelling and bruising, both of which will subside on their own within two to three weeks. Post-surgical discomfort is managed with pain medication.
Rhinoplasty Results
Once the swelling and discoloration have subsided, patients will be able to enjoy the results of their rhinoplasty. The new nose will be natural looking, and in proportion to the rest of the face. Patients who undergo rhinoplasty to correct breathing problems will find that they can sleep better and enjoy more active pursuits.
