Why Full Lips Matter
Full lips are one of the three main features that distinguish masculine and feminine faces (along with eye shape and chin shape). Thin lips decrease the feminine appearance of your face, whether you have never had them or have lost them with age. And because a loss of facial volume is so common with aging, any signs of a thinning face are associated with aging. This includes hollow cheeks, wrinkly skin, and thin lips.
Options for Lip Augmentation
Fortunately for women, there are many non-surgical options for lip augmentation.
Collagen was the first filler to gain popularity for lip augmentation and many people still believe it is the best for this application. It is a natural material, completely absorbable by your body, and gives great results. The results are longer-lasting than for uses in other parts of the face.
Hyaluronic acid fillers have grown to become the second most popular cosmetic treatment, after BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, because they give great, long-lasting results. We offer two hyaluronic acid fillers, Restylane® and Juvéderm®, but feel that Juvéderm is best for lip augmentation.

In this procedure, fat is taken from elsewhere in your body and injected into your lips. This option has two major advantages: the filler used is your own body fat, and it has the potential to give permanent results, although this cannot be guaranteed.
At Cosmetic Plastic Surgery of La Jolla we do not perform or recommend lip augmentation with implants.
Results for Lip Augmentation
You may experience swelling for a day or two after the procedure, but should not panic. This is a normal side effect and not the results of the treatment. Once the initial swelling subsides, the results of your lip augmentation will be subtle, natural, and harmonious with your facial appearance. You can typically expect results to last six months or more, depending on the filler used.
