The Facelift Procedure
During a facelift procedure, our San Diego-based surgeons make incisions just inside the hairline and above each ear that facilitates the lifting and tightening of the facial muscles. Once the skin and muscles are tightened, excess skin and muscle is trimmed and the incisions are closed.
In addition to the traditional facelift procedure, the doctors of San Diego also offer a less invasive facelift that requires smaller incisions and results in a shorter recovery period. This short scar facelift is best for patients between ages 40-60 who have started to notice sagging in the jowl area, but don’t require the drastic improvement of a traditional facelift.
Recovering from a Facelift
A traditional facelift is an invasive surgery, and as such, will result in some pain and discomfort after surgery. However, this can be safely managed with prescription pain medication provided by our experienced surgeons. Facelift patients will experience swelling and discoloration after the procedure; however, these diminish within a few weeks after facial plastic surgery. Patients can generally resume normal life within a month.
