Our San Diego breast augmentation and implant experts offer a variety of options for women looking to improve their look and shape. Our patients have the option of both silicone and saline breast implants, which are now FDA approved.
We realize that each of our patients has a different frame, build, and preference of how they would like their breasts to be improved. With the various implant options offered at our San Diego breast augmentation practice, we can customize each implant to provide the most natural looking result for each patient. We use only top-of-the line products from major manufacturers Mentor and Inamed to give our patients the best results with their silicone or saline implants.
Women seeking breast implants at our La Jolla and San Diego-area practice do so for various reasons. Many patients simply want to increase the size of their breasts, while others may want to balance asymmetrical breasts, give the breasts a better shape, or give their breasts more volume after pregnancy.
Many women who visit the San Diego Plastic Surgery Clinic for breast surgery choose to combine their breast augmentation with a breast lift procedure, giving them a more youthful silhouette in addition to larger breasts. Other patients find it convenient to combine their breast surgery with other cosmetic procedures, such as body contouring or facial smoothing, to produce an overall improved look.
When it comes to the breast enlargement procedure performed by our San Diego breast augmentation experts, they take a custom approach to how the surgery is performed. Our doctors take into account the patient’s body type and outcome goals to determine the best possible incision location. The three options for incisions include:
- Periareolar - The doctor makes an incision around the bottom border of the nipple, making the scar from the procedure relatively unnoticeable.
- Infra-mammary - The doctor makes an incision along the crease beneath the breast. Swimwear and undergarments easily conceal these scars.
- Axilla - For those who want to avoid any noticeable scarring on the breasts, the doctor can also make an incision in the armpit to insert the breast implant.
After making the incision, the surgeon creates a pocket beneath the breast tissue or chest muscle that holds the breast implant. Doing so creates a more natural look by disguising the outline of the implant beneath the tissue. Our San Diego-area breast implant doctors discuss implant placement with each patient during their pre-surgery consultations, determining the best location based on the aesthetic goals of the patient.
Breast surgery is an invasive procedure that requires the use of general anesthesia, and consequently does take several days of recovery. There will be some noticeable pain during the recovery phase, but it can be easily managed with pain medication provided by our doctors. Immediately after their procedure, our breast augmentation patients are provided with a special support bra as well as bandages and support that aid in healing upon returning home from our clinic.
Approximately a week after breast surgery, patients are able to return to work and in two to four weeks, can resume all regular activities. Scars will fade gradually after the procedure.
To aid in the recovery times and reduce the inherent discomfort from the procedure, the San Diego Plastic Surgery clinic uses Exparel to manage pain. Exparel is a new, innovative technique that our very own plastic surgeons were involved with during initial testing.
Patients who receive breast implants from San Diego Plastic Surgery Clinic are typically ecstatic with the results. Their improved shape gives them more self-confidence, a better perception of their body image, and allows them to fit into the clothes they love more easily.
