Silicone implants are the preferred implant for breast augmentation patients

Monday, January 24th, 2011

More and more patients are choosing silicone breast implants over the saline breast implants.  The silicone implants that are being used today are often referred to as “memory gel”, “gummy bear” or “cohesive gel” and all refer to the material within the silicone shell of the implant being more of a solid substance versus liquid.  When silicone implants first came out they were made of more of a liquid substance that, if the shell ruptured, would migrate or ooze.  With the current implants they hold their shape and stay within the area where they are placed.
